The Great British Bake Off returns for 2024

Exclusive

The ubiquitous air fryer may soon invade the home of traditional baking, the Great British Bake Off – and, claim experts, they won’t cause a “soggy bottom” on your Victoria Sandwich.

The TV show this week wouldn’t rule out the introduction of airfryers to the hallowed baking tent, competing with the standard NEFF oven currently in use.

A spokeswoman for Love Productions said: “The Great British Bake Off is a baking competition and as seen throughout the last 15 series, if a challenge requires the use of specific baking/cooking equipment, it is provided.”

With the return of Bake Off, there’s been a 200 per cent surge in searches for airfryers.

Philips’ in-house Airfryer Chef Martin Senders said: “We can’t all be born ‘Star Baker’, so any technology that makes baking more of a breeze is always welcome - and that’s exactly what the Airfryer does.

“An Airfryer works by circulating hot air, making it perfect for golden, perfectly risen bakes with no soggy bottom’ in sight. Not to mention how energy-efficient an Airfryer is, making your baked goods taste even sweeter.

“Cookies and muffins are my favourite treats to bake in an Airfryer, thanks to their ability to be cooked easily in batches and always producing perfectly golden-brown exteriors.”
