BBC Breakfast: Jon Kay on entering cheese and onion pasty competition

BBC Breakfast's Jon Kay couldn't contain his excitement as he started Monday's show with the 'proudest moment' of his life.

Discussing their weekend antics, Jon, 54, revealed he had entered the local village show's men-only baking contest, where he whipped up some delicious cheese and onion pasties. A photo flashed up of his baking skills, prompting a stunned reaction from co-presenter Sally Nugent who asked: "You made that?" to which Jon proudly confirmed: "I made it!"

Not just content to showcase his culinary skills, Jon teased further triumph: "You might be able to spot a rosette in the bottom left of the picture, Sally..." to which Sally eagerly responded: "Jon, look at you!"

The big reveal wasn't far behind as Jon prompted: "What's the number on the rosette?" as Sally quipped back: "Did you win?" leading Jon to joyously proclaim: "I won it!"

Sally praised him as she shared her shock: "You won first prize in a baking competition?" This prompted Jon to elaborate on the event, where he mentioned, much to his amusement, that despite his kids' doubts there were indeed other competitors with about 10 to 12 people taking part. Another image showed Jon holding his pastry masterpiece, looking nearly unrecognisable, eliciting a playful jibe from Sally about his 'disguise'.

Yet Jon noticed something amiss as he pointed out there were no bite marks in his creation, even though the pasty was cut open, questioning whether the judges had even tasted it. Reflecting on his significant achievement, an elated Jon declared it the "proudest moment of my weekend, my life probably!"

Not only is Jon making a career leap, but Naga Munchetty has also excited her followers last week by announcing she's penned a book centred on the challenges women face in healthcare, reports the Mirror.

On Instagram, the respected 49-year-old presenter shared details about her forthcoming title It's Probably Nothing, encouraging women to make their health a priority.

Her book delves deeply into crucial issues of women's health, informed by Naga's own struggles and the broader obstacles women encounter within the healthcare system. Accompanied by an image of the striking cover, her post posed the questions: "Why can the healthcare system feel rigged against women? And how can women be empowered to fight for an answer beyond just being told they're 'unlucky'?"

She explained that her book weaves together her personal story, enlightening interviews, and solid medical research to create a compelling guide aimed at helping women navigate their health at all stages of life. The caption of the post stated: "Using extensive interviews and medical evidence, as well as my own experience getting diagnosed with adenomyosis, I have aimed to put together a handbook for women at every stage of their lives that will help them get the care they deserve."

Posted under Naga's username @tvnaga, the announcement concluded with an important plea: "It's time our health is taken seriously." The reveal was met with enthusiasm from her audience, who expressed their support in the comments section.

BBC Breakfast airs from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer
