BBC Breakfast: Naga questions Matt over 'retro' graphics

BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty was quick to spot and call out a new weather detail on Thursday's show.

During the latest instalment, meteorologist Matt Taylor continued to take over from regular weather presenter Carol Kirkwood. It was revealed earlier this week that Matt, 48, would be taking over weather duties for the next three weeks as Carol, 62, confirmed she would be taking some holiday from the show.

On Thursday's show, Matt decided to highlight the contrast in weather across the country by using retro and bright logos, which were instantly spotted by an eagle-eyed Naga, 49. The presenter said: "Matt is taking a look at the weather for us this morning and there was a bit of a retro feel I saw in your hello at the start of the programme with your new graphics, what's all that about?"

To which Matt explained: "Well I was just highlighting the contrast and what better way than some good old fashioned weather symbols, hey? But yeah, a big contrast today and indeed over the next few days!"

Matt took to Twitter, now X, earlier this week to reveal that he would be taking over weather duties from Carol for the next three weeks. The meteorologist penned: "Good morning all! I’ll be looking after most of your @BBCBreakfast weather forecasts for the next 3 weeks. It’s a humid start to the week too, with rain for some. Thunderstorms possible for a few in the Met Office YELLOW warning area."

Meanwhile, as viewers reacted to Matt's tweet, Carol confirmed she was taking a break from BBC Breakfast and would be on holiday. One person responded to Matt's announcement with: "Now you have just confused me now!! Carol on holiday?" to which Carol responded from her account: "Sure am H!xxx."

It comes as Carol recently made waves with a significant career move beyond her weather presenting role on BBC Breakfast. The beloved presenter announced that she has penned her fourth novel, entitled Once Upon a Time in Venice. Sharing the fantastic development with her fans, she turned to X, previously known as Twitter, posting a photo of the new literary work.

With the image, the seasoned broadcaster wrote: "So thrilled that my fourth book 'Once Upon a Time in Venice' is out TODAY! ! ! This would not be happening without all your support. THANK YOU." Carol's writing prowess was already well-established prior to this release. In 2021, her introductory romance novel, Under a Greek Moon, soared to number two on the Sunday Times bestsellers chart.

Following that success, she brought out her second book in 2022 called The Hotel on the Riviera and then unveiled her third masterpiece, Secrets of The Villa Amore, which hit shelves in July 2023.

BBC Breakfast airs from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer.
