Good Morning Britain: Ranvir Singh explains Susanna Reid absence

Susanna Reid was forced to pull out of Good Morning Britain on Tuesday Morning for a family emergency.

Susanna was due to be back from her summer break yesterday and returned as normal. Viewers were expecting her to return again today, but just minutes into the show, Ranvir took a moment to explain where her colleague was.

Before the show got underway, she said: "If you're wondering where Susanna is, one of her boys has been taken ill overnight and she needed to stay with him, so we are here for you this morning."

Whilst Susanna wasn't on the show, Ed presented alongside Ranvir and they discussed a number of topics including snatch thefts of phones as well as other news stories of the day.

Earlier this week, Susanna admitted she couldn't wait to get back to the show. She said: "I love doing my job - the news agenda has been so busy and I have been avidly watching GMB while I have been off. This autumn we have the US Presidential election coming up so that’s going to be huge."

Speaking about how she spent the summer with her boys, she added: " This summer I took my boys to Ibiza. I have been going for ten years and it was amazing to really enjoy it with my boys now they are old enough to go clubbing. We go to the day clubs together and then I go back to the hotel and they go to the nightclubs!"

Susanna has three sons, Sam, Finn, and Jack with ex Dominic and confessed during an episode of GMB that she gets told off by her sons regularly.

She said: "We have a rule in my kitchen. The one time you’re not allowed to look at your phone is on the dinner table. People look, and particularly with the children, and then I’ll look and they’ll go 'mum mum you’re doing exactly what you said not to.' And I said, I know I know but I just had a text from the editor. There’s always a reason. There should never be a reason at the dinner table. Off your phone."

However, she is most worried when they all fly the nest and she is left home alone.

"My mornings are intense with the adrenaline of live news, so switching off is hard. I'm perfectly happy with my own company - I talk to people all day, I have a terrific team and I love my close-knit family. When the boys leave home, I know that's going to be challenging," she said last year.

"In the evening I like gentle TV, nothing gruesome. A bath is a must, it completely de-stresses me. On a good night, I switch the lights off at 10pm and I'm asleep within minutes."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am
