Corrie: Lily asks Nick to play football

Coronation Street fans were left in disbelief as Lily Platt graced the cobbled streets of Weatherfield with her presence, imploring her uncle Nick Tilsley to engage in a game of football.

Viewers of the ITV soap are aware that 10-year-old Lily (portrayed by Brooke Malonie) is the daughter of David (Jack P Shepherd) and Kylie Platt (Paula Lane), as well as the half-sibling of Max Turner (Paddy Beaver).

The mystery surrounding Lily's paternity had caused quite a stir as initially it was uncertain whether her father was her mother Kylie's spouse David or his sibling Nick. However, a DNA test swiftly confirmed that she was indeed Davids child.

Tragedy occurred Lily before she even reached the tender age of three as her mother Kylie's life was brutally cut short by Clayton Hibbs during an altercation at Prima Doner. Nowadays, Lily resides at number 8 Coronation Street with her dad, her brother Max, and their grandmother Gail.

David has since tied the knot with Shona Platt, who has embraced the maternal figure role in Lily's world, reports the Manchester Evening News.

During Monday's (August 19) episode, the young wannabe footballer appeared in the kitchen alongside her father and Shona, eager to persuade Nick for a quick kickabout.

Fans rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, in response to the scene. One viewer exclaimed: "When did Lily get so tall? She'll be towering over David next year."

While another fan expressed: "Good god! Lily Platt has returned as a giant!" A third fan exclaimed on social media: "Didn't recognise Lily for a minute then. WOW she's shot up."

Another was equally surprised, commenting: "Wow, Lily Platt appears to have grown up and got a growth spurt very quickly since she was last seen. she's at that age I guess."

The character of Lily has been portrayed by several young actors over the years, starting with twins Ava and Lilly Bushell from her introduction in August 2013 until August 2014. The role was then handed to Betsie and Emmie Taylor from September 2014 until May 2016. Since then, Brooke has taken on the mantle and continues to play Lily to this day.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
