Former Gogglebox star Stephen Webb claims he rejected Channel 4 bosses after they approached him about a potential show return. The popular personality reported he was initially propositioned after he pulled out of ITV’s Dancing On Ice.
Last October, 53-year-old Stephen was forced to exit Dancing On Ice after sustaining an ankle injury during training. Immediately after withdrawing from the celebrity competition, he alleged Gogglebox showrunners came knocking.
“Gogglebox’s producers got in touch and said, 'As you haven't done any other shows, you could come back to Gogglebox if you want’,” he admitted to the Daily Star. “But I never followed it up.
“Ten years on the show is enough. I was like Ken Barlow. I'd had more line-ups than the Sugababes It was time to go!”
He added that he was still in contact with everyone on the show and that he would “never say never” to a return. “If they asked me to go back for a special, I definitely would.”
Stephen initially appeared on Gogglebox in 2013 alongside his ex-partner Chris Ashby-Steed.
He was later joined by his late mum Pat Webb and his former husband, Daniel Lustig, who he split from earlier this year after six years of marriage.
In 2023, Stephen—who was beloved for his quick quips—decided to hang up his hat after a decade at the helm of Gogglebox.
Speaking further about his decision to exit the show, the reality star said: “I was churning out the same old s**t. I’d say to the guys, ‘Sorry, you’ll have heard this 10 times before...’ I don’t know why they’ve not cottoned on.”

Months after his separation from Daniel, Stephen announced he would be joining the cast of Celebs Go Dating but sought out his ex’s opinion before signing on the dotted line.
“I did ask Daniel for his permission to do the show because we still live together and if he had said, 'I'd prefer you not to do it'. I wouldn't have done it, but he didn't," he told The Mirror.
However, he claimed his ex-husband said: “'I think you should do it. I think it'd be really good for you'. And so, I had his blessing.”
The new series of Celebs Go Dating, starring Stephen Webb, airs tonight at 9pm on E4 and Channel4.com.
