Coronation Street fans demand 'answers' over major Ken Barlow blunder

Coronation Street fans were left bewildered by a glaring error involving the character Ken Barlow.

The ITV soap, which aired on Wednesday (August 15), featured Cassie Plummer (played by Claire Sweeney) returning to her duties, caring for the iconic Ken (portrayed by William Roache).

Viewers will remember that Ken had a severe fall, necessitating the need for a carer due to his injuries. With professional care costs proving too high, the Barlows opted to hire Cassie, who, despite her lack of formal qualifications, had some experience from looking after an ex.

Cassie has since been attending to Ken, amidst growing romantic tension with his son-in-law Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson).

But in Tuesday's episode (August 14), eagle-eyed viewers spotted a significant oversight that got plenty of people talking.

Donning an apron and carrying a tray of food for bedridden Ken, Cassie came across Steve in the hallway. She then informed him that she had prepared a chicken casserole for Ken, and was taking it up for him.

However, fans quickly took to social media to express their confusion, as Ken is known to be a vegetarian. On a Corrie fan page on Facebook, one viewer exclaimed: "I thought Ken was vegetarian!!!"

Someone questioned: "Why was Cassie taking Ken Chicken casserole, he's vegetarian or vegan.", reports the Liverpool Echo.

A third viewer chimed in on the social media platform and pointed out the script blunder. They said: "The writers forgot Ken is a vegetarian."

Another joined in, adding: "I was thinking to myself. Isn't Ken a vegetarian. Hmm, chicken casserole. I want answers."

A fifth fan echoed the sentiment, commenting: "I was thinking the same! " Meanwhile, a sixth eagle-eyed viewer clarified: "Just googled it and apparently he became veggie following his trip to Canada in 2014. He also is in real life."
