Call the Midwife: BTS footage of new Christmas Special and Series 14

BBC drama Call the Midwife is gearing up for a heartwarming return with a Christmas special this December. The festive episode will introduce viewers to a fresh face in the cast, as nine-year-old actress Myla Park joins the show in a pivotal, yet undisclosed role.

Over the weekend, the programme's official Instagram account shared a sneak peek from behind the scenes, featuring Myla alongside her young co-stars April Rae Hoang, Alice Brown, and Edward Shaw, who portray the Turner family children May, Angela, and Ned. The post was accompanied by a charming caption that read: "With each passing year, the Turner children grow up even faster than before! And with each season they become better friends - and they have so much more fun while on set with us."

The update continued, highlighting the blossoming friendships on set: "It warms the heart to see how well they all get on - and their friendship group is always open to the young guest actors who come along to play important featured characters in our episodes."

The social media reveal concluded by noting how the young actors have formed strong bonds and become "great playmates" while filming the much-anticipated Christmas scenes.

The statement read: "This new gang of tiny stars wanted to immortalise their day in typical film fashion with a clapperboard shot - and our camera team were ready with an appropriately tiny clapperboard!! The next time you see Myla, it'll be in a more dramatic context... but until then, our lips are sealed," reports WalesOnline.

Myla is no stranger to the limelight, having previously starred in the West End production of Annie among other shows.

Details about the eagerly-anticipated Christmas special remain under wraps, but we do know it will be set in 1969 and herald a "poignant turning point" as the show transitions into the '70s.

Hints about the upcoming episodes suggest that Poplar will play host to a travelling funfair, with the cast reportedly enjoying free rides on the helter skelter, rifle shooting games, dodgem cars and carousels.

In the finale of Series 13, viewers watched as Mrs Higgins bid farewell to her long-lost son, whom she had been reunited with decades after giving him up for adoption at the age of 21. The emotional scenes saw her learn that her now adult son Victor was suffering from a fatal kidney disease.

Fans were left concerned that Trixie Franklin might be leaving the show after she announced plans to join her husband Matthew in New York.

However, actress Helen George has been sharing photos from the set of season 14, suggesting that she's not planning on leaving anytime soon.

Call the Midwife fans were heartbroken when actor Olly Rix made the decision to exit the popular drama last year. Despite his character not being killed off, sparking hope for a potential return, recent reports suggest he's secured a role in Casualty, indicating his hiatus may extend longer than initially expected.
