Viewers of Midsomer Murders have been left confused after being left to wait for the first death. The latest episode of the ITV drama, called A Grain of Truth, focuses on a newly re-opened bakery and poisoned rolls, for which DCI John Barnaby and DS Jamie Winter investigate.

Guests starring in A Grain of Truth include Robert Gilbert as Tom Larkton and Rebecca Night as Chrissie Larkton, as well as Jo Martin in the role of Denise Bantrig and Paul Chahidi as Gabriel Arnson.

Many were hooked on the baking drama, which included some punters and villagers hallucinating thanks to some dodgy sandwiches, but others were left wondering when the first death will take place.

The first death in a Midsomer Murders episode usually takes place in the first 30 minutes, but inpatient viewers were surprised to see a character meet their untimely death around 36 minutes in.

One quipped: “Midsomer NO Murders” while another said: “35 minutes in and not one murder!”

Another viewer added: “WTF is going on?” as one joked “Death by grain”.

Farmer Nathan was murdered after he was trapped inside a grain silo. The silo was being cleared before grains suddenly rained down on him and ultimately submerged.

DCI John Barnaby and DS Jamie Winter were quick onto the case as they sought to understand the circumstances of the death, dangerous bread, social media trolling and a perceived curse.

A Grain of Truth also features guest appearances from Martin Trenaman as Silas Bantrig, Jola Jassy as Claire Simkins, Chris Coniston as Ricky Naybury, Flaminia Cinque as Maria Cignoni, and Harry Taurasi as Bobby Cignoni.

The cast also includes Russell Floyd as Jack Duncroft, Geoffrey Lumb as Nathan Duncroft, Laila Rouass and Vanessa Debouverie.

Neil Dudgeon reprises his role as DCI John Barnaby, alongside Nick Hendrix as DS Jamie Winter, Fiona Dolman as Sarah Barnaby, and Annette Badland as Fleur Perkins.

Midsomer Murders is available to watch on ITVX.
