Netflix has unveiled the heart-wrenching trailer for its upcoming documentary, Daughters, which follows the lives of young girls whose fathers are incarcerated in America. The film, which has reportedly moved viewers to tears, documents the journey of these families as their daughters prepare for a unique father-daughter dance held within the prison walls.

The brainchild of Angela Patton, CEO of charity Girls for a Change, and filmmaker Natalie Rae, Daughters is an extension of Patton's community initiative, Date with dad. This programme encourages bonding between fathers and daughters separated by the penal system, culminating in a poignant daddy-daughter dance where the men swap their state-issued uniforms for semi-formal attire, creating a tender moment of family connection.

Following a viral TEDWomen talk about Date with dad in 2012, Rae approached Patton with the idea of capturing the programme on film. After eight years in the making, the documentary made its debut at the Sunday Film Festival earlier this year.

Daughters, which has received critical acclaim, bagged the Audience Award in Documentary Competition and was crowned the overall Festival Favourite. Netflix is set to release the much-anticipated documentary in just a few weeks.

On Thursday (July 18), Netflix shared the moving trailer for Daughters across social media platforms and confirmed that the documentary will be available for streaming from August 14.
