GMB: Susanna Reid discusses search for Jay Slater

During Monday's Good Morning Britain, Susanna Reid and Ed Balls discussed the case of missing teenager Jay Slater. Susanna confessed to being "feeling distracted" by the news.

The ITV presenter apologised before delving into the details of the young boy's disappearance and the decision by Tenerife police to halt their search.

She expressed her disbelief: "Sorry, I was slightly distracted by the news about Jay Slater and the fact that the police there in Tenerife have decided to stop the actual search...I just feel...how has that young man disappeared into thin air? ".

She then pondered on the family's predicament: "And what did the family do now? because, you know, we all imagine, everyone imagines what you'd...I just would not be able to leave."

She questioned: "How could you possibly? You couldn't leave Tenerife, could you? Knowing that your son is somewhere there? ", reports the Mirror.

Ed added his thoughts: "We have seen this before, haven't we in the last few months.

"As time passes, the internet fills with speculation, stories, and conspiracies, and for the family, they'll know there is a simple explanation, but they will also be reading all of this complexity and they just don't know."

The hosts also spoke with Richard Gaisford, who appeared via video link in Tenerife.

He explained the family of Jay has vowed to continue the search for the missing teenager, who disappeared almost two weeks ago.

"The case is not closed by the Spanish police but they have actively stopped searching," he confirmed.

"The family now needs to decide what they are going to do with more than £40,000 that has been Crowdfunded.

"An awful lot of online suggestions for them to consider experts chipping with their view, suggesting that they should pay for their own expertise to continue the search."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
