Suspect series two teased in trailer from Channel 4

Death in Paradise star Ben Miller has landed a new role in a crime thriller - and he looks pretty similar to his character DI Richard Poole in the Caribbean-based series. Ben will join Bad Sisters' sensation Anne Marie-Duff in the second season of Channel 4 thriller Suspect.

In a first-look trailer of the new series, Dr Susannah Newman (played by Anne Marie-Duff) is entangled in a chilling narrative as her character grows suspicious that her new client, portrayed by Mamma Mia's Dominic Cooper, could be a murderer. After confessing to killing women, Susanna is unsure what to do and her life is soon put in danger.

Picking up from where James Nesbitt left off, the show continues to unravel the tale of Dr. Susannah Newman as she delves into the harrowing mystery surrounding her daughter's untimely demise.

In the trailer, Ben's character, Detective Superintendent Richard Groves can be heard saying to the doctor: "Your daughter kills herself and you want to save a girl's life?"

"Oh please," Susanna argued before Richard added: "There is no evidence, no bodies..."

The official synopsis teases: "When a mysterious new client Jon makes a disturbing confession under hypnosis, Susannah is forced to embark on her own deadly mission to save a life, the way she couldn't do with her own daughter."

Joining Anne-Marie, Dominic, and Ben in the drama is Tamsin Greig of Belgravia fame, and Eddie Marsden from Ray Donovan.

This riveting series, a reimagining of the Danish hit Forhret, initially followed a detective piecing together his murdered daughter's last days to identify her killer.

Anne-Marie shared her excitement about the upcoming season, stating: "I'm so pleased to be returning to Suspect to be able to dig deeper into the character of Dr Susannah Newman. Expect lots of twists, turns, and revelations alongside more questions to be answered. I can't wait for viewers to see what we've done with the second series."

Discussing her character, she revealed to Channel 4: "She is Danny's ex-wife and a psychologist who employs various techniques such as hypnotherapy. They share a daughter, Christina, and their relationship is intricate.

"When they encounter each other in the series, they carry two burdens: one filled with sorrow over their daughter's loss, the other brimming with unresolved issues surrounding failed relationships. When he enters and they see each other, it's evident they haven't had a proper meeting for some time, so it's charged with all sorts of energy."

Channel 4 Drama Commissioning Executive Ben Wadey added: "We're thrilled to be collaborating with Eagle Eye Drama once more to bring back Suspect for its second series. With Anne-Marie Duff reprising her role as Dr Susannah Newman and an exceptional ensemble cast that includes Dominic Cooper, Tamsin Greig and Eddie Marsan, Channel 4 viewers are in for a treat when this airs."

Death in Paradise is available to watch on BB iPlayer.
