Dean Sullivan stars as Jimmy Corkhill in Brookside

Brookside and Grange Hill are anticipated to make a comeback, according to betting experts. The Liverpool-based soap Brookside, which aired on Channel 4, was cancelled in 2003 and Grange Hill was axed in 2008.

Oddmakers at Sportscasting are predicting Brookside could make a return to our screens after recent re-runs of the show broke viewing records.

They've suggested that a rumoured Grange Hill film is also in the making - so could this popular school-based soap, that ran for 30 years, also be set for a comeback?

Betting experts claim that Brookside the most likely British soap to make comeback at 2/1, whilst Grange Hill also one of the fancies to return at 3/1.

Sportscasting.com spokesman Andy Newton, reacted to our ‘TV Soap Comeback’ odds saying: “Soap writing royalty Sir Philip Redmond was responsible for both Brookside & Grange Hill and after many years on the sidelines the oddsmakers are making them the big favourites to be remade.

"This is based on recent re-runs of Brookside, that were added to STV Player in 2023 smashing streaming records, plus there are also strong rumours of a Grange Hill movie - which could then easily lead to a new series being penned.

"Crossroads, which originally aired between 1964 and 1988, is third in the betting at 6/1, but ITV soap bosses tried a revival in 2001 and that only lasted two years so I can’t see the famous motel opening again."

Oddmakers also predicted that former ITV soap Crossroads 6/1 to return for a second time. But, betting suggests Eldorado and Family Affairs won’t be coming back to our screens.

Meanwhile, the UEFA European Football Championship has caused chaos for soap fans in recent weeks and the schedule is set to be disrupted once again next week as the tournament continues.

EastEnders has found a temporary home on BBC Two, still at the familiar 7.30pm slot, while Emmerdale manages to hold onto three episodes next week, including its regular Thursday hour-long special.

Yet, the Dales will be conspicuously absent on Tuesday and Wednesday (June 25 and June 26), leaving fans without their fix. Coronation Street enthusiasts will need to muster even more patience, with the show only making two appearances next week.
