Outlander’s Catriona Balfe discusses parenting during filming
Outlander’s Claire Fraser actress stunned at an awards night back “home” where she was given a “huge honour”.
Caitriona Balfe has been at the heart of bringing author Diana Gabaldon’s romantic novel series to life on Starz since 2014 and has gained a legion of fans as a result.
So it was unsurprising when the 44-year-old was nominated for best actress at the IFTA (Irish Film and Television Academy) Awards 2024.
Going up against the likes of Niamh Algar, Elva Trill and Sharon Horgan, Balfe had some stiff competition on the night of the glamourous event held at Dublin Royal Convention Centre.
While Outlander’s leading lady lost to Kin’s Clare Dunne on the night, she certainly made an impression prior to the ceremony on the red carpet.

Balfe attended the event wearing a long white, sleeveless Standing Ground dress with a high neck, dressed with a pair of open-toed heels.
In contrast to her long locks in Outlander, the actress’ hair came just below her ears with a fringe to finish off the look.
Sharing a picture of herself on Instagram, Balfe wrote: “So thrilled to have been at the @iftaacademy awards last night in Dublin.
“So great to get home and celebrate Irish film and television which is thriving right now. And so honoured to have been nominated … what a night.”

Some of Balfe’s two million followers couldn’t help but show their support for the star with thousands liking her post and others posting comments.
One fan wrote: “It looked like a great evening, you looked truly stunning” with a second commenting: “Gorgeous! So nice you got to be home with your mum and your family and friends."
Another said: “This looks phenomenal from head to toe!”, while someone else added: “Absolutely stunning, you’re timeless."
Balfe may not have won on the night but Outlander fans cannot wait for the Starz drama to make a comeback.
Why did Harry and Meghan make a Netflix series about their life?
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have found themselves at the centre of public attention since they took a step back from senior royal duties in 2020.
In a trailer for the Netflix series about them, Prince Harry told viewers that “no one sees what’s happening behind closed doors” in a reference to how their lives may differ from what the public think about the couple. Meghan adds: “When the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”.
Reports suggested the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could receive up to $100 million for making the show, although this has been disputed and the true figure is unknown.
Season seven made its debut in early 2023 but hasn’t been seen since and won’t be returning until sometime in November.
News also came out in 2023 that Outlander would be returning for series eight, however, the announcement was bittersweet as it was revealed this would be its final outing.
Filming for season eight in Scotland is now reportedly underway.
