Antiques Roadshow fans took to Twitter to protest: "But where are the antiques?" as the latest episode failed to feature a single valuation. BBC host Fiona Bruce commended the "bravery, pioneering research, sacrifice and devotion" of British nurses this evening, provoking heartwarming emotions for many.

However, others argued that the programme had lost track of its theme, as bewildered viewers were left wondering why nothing was being valued. "No valuations...oh come on, that's not fair, nursing or not!" one fan exclaimed.

"#AntiquesRoadshow Great subject, amazing women and stories but has it got anything to do with antiques?" another questioned. "Remember when #AntiquesRoadshow was an antiques programme and #countryfile was about the countryside?" a third chimed in, before sarcastically quipping: "Heady days."

One viewer revealed in no uncertain terms: "I only want to see old s*** getting valued thanks very much #antiquesroadshow." Meanwhile, another revealed they'd like to see more of a focus on the achievements of women, after the show stated that 89% of nurses had been female during the time period under discussion.

"A nursing special celebrating the great work of women, [but then] Fiona meets a group of modern nurses and surprisingly interviews the only male nurse," groaned the follower, adding a head in hands emoji.

Despite some disappointment from viewers over the unconventional Bank Holiday episode, without the valuation footage they'd been hoping for, there were some heartwarming moments on the show.

A vintage photo of courageous wartime nurse Edith Cavell was shared by a man who'd had a relative who'd been cared for by her.

She'd been sentenced to death by the Germans and executed by firing squad during World War I, despite helping wounded soldiers from both sides during the conflict.

An extract from the heartbreaking communication read: "I was always very strict and I loved you more than you'll ever know."

Elsewhere, a plaque from the war was found which read: "She died for freedom" - a rarity in those days.

Fiona revealed that 1.4 million of the special plaques had been issued to men, but women had received only 600, making it a truly unique momento.

Antiques Roadshow is available to watch on PBS.
