Gregg Wallace and John Torode are set to return to the small screen for the 20th series of MasterChef. After fronting the show for nearly two decades, Gregg, 58, and John, 59, have faced the question of when they will permanently hang up their kitchen aprons.

The duo shot to fame for their judging talents and culinary expertise. However, they regularly appear away from the BBC show on programmes like ITV’s This Morning.

Recently, the BBC stars said that they have no plans to bow out of the long-running TV programme. The chefs joined the network back in 2005 and have gone on to turn competitors into household names.

John couldn't resist quipping that he and Gregg are irreplaceable as hosts. "That's too much responsibility for anybody - to take over from me and him, there's no way in the world,” said John.

Before exclaiming: “Where are you going to find two attractive people, one with hair, the other without, anywhere like that? There's no way!"

The celebrity did not mince his words when he revealed the only circumstances in which he would step down to Bella Magazine.

John was heard saying: “I think to get me out of place, they're going to have to push me out the door”.

He stood his ground by further adding that producers may even have to “blend my food to get me to taste it. That's when I'll be leaving”.

John went on to gush about his co-star Gregg and spoke about their strong professional bond on camera.

The pair have known each other for nearly 20 years – with Gregg saying that despite being “different” people, their approach to work is “similar”.

Speaking of the new series which kicks off tomorrow on the BBC, the star shared his disbelief that they were heading into season 20.

Gregg appeared emotional as he said: “It’s such a point of pride and celebration.”

The TV judge explained he believes that “food brings people together” and insisted he feels “fortunate” that year in and year out, they can meet with a variety of different talents who are able to showcase their work.

While John and Gregg have agreed to reprise their judging roles for years to come, they are also set to be joined by a string of guest judges during the eight week competition.

MasterChef returns to BBC One and Iplayer at 9:00pm.
