Passenger: Official ITV trailer for new drama show

Jason Manford has revealed the reason he isn't in wife Lucy Pike's new ITV show Passenger. The popular actor, presenter and comedian admitted that he had an audition for the show but didn't get the role.

The star took to his X, formerly Twitter, to plug the show, which was made by Sister where his wife Lucy Dyke is an Executive Producer. He posted a promotional image for the show alongside a comment telling people to watch it.

"Fab new show from the producers of Chernobyl & The Split (ie my wife who made Black Mirror for Netflix too so ya know it’s gonna be quality!). @itv tonight at 9 & then the series drops on @itvxofficial! It’s great (I’m bias but it is!). Imagine Happy Valley meets Stranger Things!" he wrote.

It didn't take long before one of his 458,900 followers @livingstones4 quipped: "Mrs not keen to give you a part in it?" This led Jason to reveal that he had actually been considered for a part.

"I got an audition! Didn’t get it same as The Split! I think she’s trying to keep work and home separate (at least that’s what my ego tells me!)," he responded including a laughing emoji.

Another follower with the handle @Outoftheparkboy tried to console Jason writing: "Perhaps she was championing you but it was the other producers that were going in a different direction!"

Jason quickly shot that idea down though laughing: "I can very much imagine it was the other way round."

The rejection hasn't left Jason out of work however as he was recently announced as the latest addition to the cast of BBC's school set drama Waterloo Road.

The 42-year-old will be taking on the part of headteacher Steve Savage and his character set to have a "big impact on the staff and pupils."

Jason and Lucy married on 2017 and share two children. Jason also has four other children from his first marriage. In 2021 he revealed that their relationship was tested when he grew sideburns for his role in stage show Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

“When I was Caractacus Potts in Chitty [Chitty Bang Bang] I grew big sideburns and I got them right down to here, right down to below the lip sort of thing and my wife hated them, like genuinely hated them," he shared.

“I guess a lot of fellas do this, once you are married and they can’t leave you for trivial reasons, like having mutton chops.

“You can do what you like, but if you have dated someone once and they have got mutton chops, you don’t have to have a second date, but once you have got kids, that’s a really trivial reason to go through the process of divorce. So I think we as men do things that sort of annoy our wives, but it's sort of like us testing the boundaries."

Passenger is on ITV on Sunday and Monday night at 9pm with all episodes available to view on ITVX.
