BBC Breakfast report on Kate Middleton's cancer diagnosis

BBC Breakfast viewers have slammed the programme for its extensive coverage of Princess Kate's cancer diagnosis after she requested "space and privacy". On Friday, the Princess of Wales revealed in a video posted online that she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy.

On January 16, the Princess of Wales underwent "planned abdominal surgery", but post-operative test results revealed that cancer was present. In her video, she also reiterated her desire for privacy as she completes her cancer treatment.

Viewers who tuned into BBC Breakfast on Saturday morning, however, complained on X, formerly known as Twitter, after the broadcaster covered Kate's announcement with reporters based outside Windsor Castle.

One person moaned online: "What part of “leave them alone!” Do you not understand!", as a second commented: "Doing 13 minutes on Kate's Cancer on @bbcbreakfast is not "extending privacy" to the Princess of Wales' family. @newswatchbbc."

A third typed: "Why have the BBC got reporter outside Windsor castle the princess of wales made a statement nobody is going to come out to speak to the reporter leave the woman alone to get on with her treatment."

A fourth person chimed in: "Seriously BBC leave the poor woman alone to go through her treatment! “The family are asking for privacy” as your journalist stands reporting outside her home! @BBCBreakfast."

A fifth also said: "The BBC is giving this wall to wall coverage. Sending reporters to Windsor, Kensington Palace, etc. This is so disrespectful to Kate & typical of the BBC."

In the video shared by Kensington Palace, Kate stated: "In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.

"My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment."

She added: "It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok."

The Princess also made it clear that she is grateful to the medical team for the care they have provided for her. Catherine will continue to go about her daily business as she recovers.

Many public figures have posted emotional statements in support of Kate, including Piers Morgan, Dan Walker, Alison Hammond and Amanda Holden.
