Gethin Jones says Morning Live will be off the air for a few weeks

Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones left viewers devastated on Friday after announcing that the show was being pulled off the air over the next few weeks. The 46-year-old BBC star confirmed the show's final episode on Friday (March 15) and will be replaced by Crimewatch Live.

The popular breakfast show which runs from 9:30 am until 10:45 am each weekday, is being taken off air “for a few weeks”. Welsh TV star Gethin, who is also a regular on The One Show, said: "It’s the last Morning Live unfortunately, so if you have any burning questions for our experts, we are still gonna be with you, this is your last chance to get them in.”

Morning Live first aired in 2020 and is temporarily being replaced by Crimwatch Live, which will now air at 9:30am, with Critical Incident at 10:15am and Animal Park at 10:45am in the coming weeks.

The show will be broadcast from it's Broadcasting House in Cymru, Wales. Long standing hosts Rav Wilding and Michelle Ackerley will host from the studio, while John Paul Davies will report on the scene.

Donning a blue denim number, Gethin sat alongside co-host and radio star Sarah Cox.

Gethin took to social media to share the news with his 129,000 Instagram followers before Friday’s instalment. He shared a string of exclusive behind-the-scenes clips with his co-stars, Dr Punam, and Matt Allwright.

He then posted a sad face emoji as he wrote: "Hello... but actually it's goodbye from @bbcmorninglive for a few weeks." The news comes after the BBC announced a huge shakeup at the network.

The hiatus comes after big changes at the BBC amid the programme undergoing a huge glow-up at the start of the year.

Morning Live was granted extended episodes and a fresh presenting line-up back in January.

Helen Skelton and Michelle Ackerley were confirmed as permanent presenters on the show, alternating alongside Gethin Jones every Monday to Wednesday.

Although Gethin still presented four to five shows a week, Kym Marsh hosted on Thursdays.

They pulled out all the stops as they drafted in the likes of hosts Sara Cox, Kimberley Walsh, Gaby Roslin, and Rav Wilding.

It also went from a 45-minute slot to 75 minutes, every weekday.

BBC Morning Live will return on Monday, April 8.
