BBC Breakfast: Sally Nugent 'auditions' for Radio 2

, the host of , got everyone talking when she "auditioned" for a new presenting job right there on the programme. During Tuesday's show, the 52-year-old welcomed viewers as she discussed top news stories with her co-host Jon Kay.

They talked about everything from Colin Firth's famous shirt from Pride and Prejudice being sold, the shocking treatment of homeless people in Manchester, and the start of Celebrity Big Brother. Later in the show, Sally and Jon mentioned an upcoming chat with Ricky Wilson, lead singer of Kaiser Chiefs.

Before Ricky joined them, Sally gave a brief sketch of his career success and playfully said: "We are predicting a riot - do you like that?"

She added: "Ricky Wilson and Simon Rix will turn up today. Yes, the Kaiser Chiefs are back with a brand-new album and they will join us just before nine this morning."

Jon found her delivery compelling and jokingly commented, "You sounded very Radio 2."

To which Sally responded, "Did I? " and then coyly hinted, "Maybe that's me auditioning". This led to them both erupting into laughter.

After Jon made a little mistake on the show, Sally Nugent couldn't resist teasing him. He said, "Stay tuned for more Monday morning news" but it was actually Tuesday!

Sally joked with him, "It's Tuesday, not Monday. It might be Monday for you but it's Tuesday for everyone else." This happened after Jon didn't show up on Monday.

Jon, who is 54 years old, usually hosts the show with Sally from Monday to Wednesday. But he wasn't there this past Monday, March 4.

Ben Thompson stepped in to host with Sally that morning. Ben told everyone on Sunday night, March 3, that he would be hosting.

A fan even tweeted a picture of Ben and Rachel Burden from the show on Sunday.

Someone wrote on X, "It's OK to watch Breakfast at Tea Time right @BenThompsonTV @rachelburden?! " Ben shared that tweet and said, "That face... See you tomorrow 0600-0930, BBC One."

BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
