News presenter Rageh Omaar has been taken ill during a live broadcast of 's News at Ten. The 56 year old journalist, who serves as International Affairs Editor, appeared to struggle with his speech during Friday night's bulletin, sparking concern among viewers.

ITV then pulled the ITV News at Ten from its +1 channel, airing the message: "We'll be back soon. We're temporarily unable to bring you our +1 service. We will resume shortly."

Footage of the incident was widely shared on social media, with many expressing their worry for Omaar's wellbeing. One viewer, @GregScottVOs, tweeted: "Something DESPERATELY wrong with ITV newsreader, Rageh Omaar, reader of tonight's Ten. Desperately hope he's okay."

ITV issued a statement this morning acknowledging the concerns and confirming that Omaar is now receiving medical care. "We are aware that viewers are concerned about Rageh Omaar's wellbeing," an ITV News spokesperson said.

"Rageh became unwell while presenting News at Ten on Friday and is now receiving medical care."

Omaar himself thanked everyone for their well wishes in the statement. However, no further details have been released regarding his condition or what happened during the broadcast, reports Leeds Live.

The re-run of the programme on ITV +1 was cancelled, with a message informing viewers that the channel was "temporarily unable to bring you our +1 service".

Omaar first gained recognition for his coverage of the Iraq war for the BBC in 2003. He now reports on significant global news stories for ITV News and also hosts the current affairs programme On Assignment.

After the incident on air, fans took to social media to share their concern, as one said: "Hoping Rageh Omaar got the care he quite clearly needed after the ITV news tonight. Not entirely sure of the context and why he had to continue broadcasting, but I’m sure there will be an explanation in time."

"Really upsetting viewing. Struggling to speak and slurring words," said another.
