season 21 will be one to remember as it will be similar to binge-worthy dramas on and , according to Nick Torres actor Wilmer Valderrama.

The long-running police procedural is making a comeback for season 21 on Monday, February 12, picking up from that almighty cliffhanger that aired back in May 2023.

Unfortunately, there had been a delay in NCIS returning due to the actors and writers’ strikes which put a stop to production so series 21 couldn’t begin in September as predicted.

Nevertheless, the countdown begins until is back, picking up from when was threatening to kill mysterious Maurice Riva (Al Sapienza).

It is because of the delays that season 21 will be the shortest in the crime drama's history with just 10 episodes, rather than the usual 22.

The fact there are fewer episodes prompted its creators to have “more fun” with the series, with Wilmerrama comparing season 21 to dramas on streamers like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Speaking to ET at the Golden Globes, the star explained: "Everyone knows it's a shortened season. We're doing 10 episodes.

“Because we're doing 10 and not your conventional 22, we've decided to have a little bit more fun with the new generation of streaming content and really have our show feel like something you have to watch all 10 together.

"So, yeah, it's different. You heard it here first."

He continued to talk about making NCIS more current, adding: "We're going to try to make sure that every time an episode ends, you know, something in that episode is gonna carry over.

“We're going to try because I think it's time for producers to evolve and the future of content and how it's being consumed.

“I think CBS does it better, they know their audience super well. So, I'm really proud of what we're doing."

There have been some teasers for what’s to come and fans are already eager to see how the drama will play out.

Last month, a clip was shared to Instagram of Torres being taken away in handcuffs as Agent Alden Parker (Gary Cole) tries to figure out what’s happened.

Agents Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) and Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) look equally puzzled when they hear their colleague has been arrested for murder.

Torres doesn’t say anything when he walks past them but did he really shoot Maurice and if so, why?

NCIS season 21 premieres on Monday, February 12, on CBS.
