Sunday Brunch plunged into chaos seconds into show

Sunday Brunch’s latest edition started shakily as co-hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer admitted they “weren’t ready” to broadcast. The pair could be heard spluttering in the opening segment of the show.

On Sunday, (April 28) the premiere Channel 4 cooking show returned with beloved presenters Tim, 56, and 60-year-old Simon at the helm. Guests on the most recent iteration included comedians Sue Perkins and Josh Widdicombe, as well as Jason Fox and actress Sophie Thompson.

Jess Glynne was also on the Sunday Brunch panel and was employed as the programme’s live music act for the afternoon. However, the show began chaotically as both anchors began coughing.

“I’m not ready and Tim Lovejoy,” the star eventually choked out. His co-presenter added: “I’m not ready either and I’m Simon Rimmer.”

Running with the joke, the pair turned to Sophie, 62, and asked her whether she was ready. After replying in the affirmative, heads turned to Sue, 54, who claimed she also “wasn’t ready”.

“Barely prepared,” she joked. After successfully introducing their guests and diving head-first into the show, fans took to social media to have their say.

One user of X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: “Jesus this show is painful! Off to watch the snooker on bbc2.”

A second said: “No one knows what to do with Josh Widdecombe he's no comedian he’s no actor he hangs around with other comedians in order to get on their shows as a standby guest.”

A third however commented: “It's Sunday morning, so of course, I'm tuned into @SundayBrunchC4 and trying to see which timepiece @simonrim has opted for today! His collection is outstanding and I am forever envious. Have a great show, guys.”

“I’m loving Sophie on @Sunday BrunchC4 this morning! She’s looking lovely as always.”

Tim and Simon have presented Sunday Brunch since the show made its debut in March 2012.

In 2021, the former admitted that they try not to “take each other seriously” and revealed they’d never had a “serious falling out”

“Sometimes he might say something live and I’ll think, ‘I really didn’t want my family to know that,” he added.

You can tune into Sunday Brunch every Sunday from 9.30am on Channel 4.
