Ulrika Jonsson discusses marriage and divorce on Lorraine

Thursday’s instalment of started a little differently as hosts and paid tribute to some of the most well-known faces when it comes to weather broadcasting. Introducing them to the ITV show, Dermot said: “Please, welcome four icons of the weather world!”

Making their grand entrance through rainbow umbrellas whilst the song "It's Raining Men" played, the first person who appeared was ITV’s first-ever weather girl Hilary Langford. Following suit were Ulrika Jonsson, Emma Jesson and Laura Tobin.

After speaking to Hilary, Alison addressed Ulrika, as she said: “Going back to the 80s, you were my weather girl if I remember correctly. Weather completely launched your career didn’t it?”

Admitting that she was correct, Ulrika told the This Morning hosts that when she started presenting the weather she was around the age of 21. However, she initially wanted to be a children’s TV presenter.

She confessed: “It didn’t go too well! I played my guitar, say no more. Then I did a weather audition which was pretty awful. They asked me to come back and do another one.”

The 56-year-old confessed she had spent three months going to the weather centre in London to learn all that she could.

However, she explained that during her period of weather presenting, it very much revolved around what the hosts were wearing.

She added: “We had a boss who believed in eternal sunshine. We had to wear bright pink, bright yellow, encouraged to go on sunbeds, have shoulder pads and bouffant hair.”

Picking up on the fact that she, along with the other three weather presenters, were wearing muted colours, Ulrika joked they’d all be sacked for their choices today.

As Alison highlighted how keen the press were about Ulrika during her TV fame, she replied: “I think it was probably just because I’m Swedish and blonde, that was quite unusual.”

During the segment, they spoke to Good Morning Britain’s Laura Tobin who confessed she knew what she wanted to do from the age of 14 after a science lesson.

She told Alison and Dermot: “That day, I phoned the Met Office and said, ‘How do I become a weather forecaster?’

“So I did the right A-Levels and the right degree, I just love the weather, I didn’t actually want to be a weather presenter.

“I just love weather and talking and they come together! It’s a really complicated science.”

Laura shared that the job of a weather presenter is to make the topic interesting, short and concise.

This Morning continues weekdays on ITV from 10am.
