Antiques Roadshow viewers were left emotional as the BBC programme played a montage dedicated to late porcelain expert Henry Sandon who died last month.

Henry, aged 95, died on Christmas Day at a care home in Malvern, Worcestershire. The expert became a household name when he joined the BBC programme back in 1979.

During Sunday night's instalment of Antiques Roadshow, host Fiona Bruce narrated a touching tribute for Henry which stirred up a lot of fond memories for longtime fans of the programme.

Footage of the expert throughout his years on the well-loved programme was aired to viewers who took to social media to pay their respects.

Fiona said over the archived clips of Henry: "We recently received the sad news that Henry Dandon, a member of our expert team since the earliest days of the Roadshow, had died aged 95."

She continued: "Born in London in 1928, Henry was evacuated during the Second World War and eventually settled in Worcester where his discovery of Roman and Medieval pottery in the garden would lead to a lifelong passion for ceramics."

"Henry joined the Antiques Roadshow in 1979. His knowledge of porcelain, and in particular Royal Worcester was unparalleled."

In 1990, Henry made one of his most exciting finds on the show in the form of an owl whose head came off as it was "a little drinking cup".

The item was named Ozzy the Owl and it turned out to be an extremely rare jug dating back to the 1800s.

In the archive footage aired on Sunday night, Henry told the owner of the owl it was worth around £30,000 which left her speechless.

Later in life, Henry received an MBE for his services to broadcasting following a 30-year career on screen before he presented the late Queen Elizabeth II with a porcelain ornament of one of her grey horses.

Reflecting on the moment he gave Her Majesty the horse, he said: "She screamed with delight and said, 'It's my horse!' Tears came into her eyes, she loved the thing so much."
