Full clip of BBC News anchor Maryam Moshiri caught giving the middle finger

BBC bosses were faced with yet another one of their presenters making a blunder whilst the cameras were rolling and live on air. During the BBC News at One bulletin, journalist Chetan Pathak delivered the latest sports news but got himself a little tongue-tied and left red-faced.

Chetan was discussing the news that German manager Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool had won the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup during which he was detailing the excitement. However, seeming to be a little excited about the news, Chetan decided to ad-lib his section which left him in an awkward position.

Speaking about the former footballer and now-manager's reaction, he said: "We saw him fisting… bumping his fists in the air there."

Noticing what he had said, Chetan let out a small giggle before resuming his composure and getting on with the rest of the news.

Unable to let the incident slide, he took to his X accounts, formerly known as Twitter, and said: "My apologies, lesson learnt. The next time I think I’ll ad-lib a story, I’ll stick to what’s written on the autocue."

Viewers also weren't letting Chetan off lightly, as they also took to their X accounts to comment on the awkward moment.

One tickled viewer wrote: "Oh Chetan, please don’t stop ad-libbing', with a couple of laughing faces alongside it.

Another added: "Made my day yesterday! The moment you realise…"

"This made my day Chetan. Well done for keeping it together - I’m assuming they were all laughing in your ear?!!!

"Love love love you. I was roaring with laughter. You are our entertainment... Oh Chetan... Oh Chetan," a third user exclaimed.

TV critic and journalist Scott Bryan shared the video and commented: "Jürgen Klopp did what?!?" before an embarrassed Chetan replied: "First thought that went through my head when I said this was I hope Scott Bryan isn’t watching." (sic)

Chetan's wasn't the first slip-up for the channel as they have suffered multiple across the year, with another happening earlier this month.

Maryam Moshiri was caught giving the middle finger to the camera live on air in a "private joke" as she opened the news bulletin.

The video quickly went viral and Maryam was seen raising her eyebrows and flipping off the camera as she came on-screen.

She quickly issued an apology on her social media account and explained that she "did not realise" the moment would be caught on camera.

She tweeted: "Hey everyone, yesterday just before the top of the hour I was joking around a bit with the team in the gallery. I was pretending to count down as the director was counting me down from 10-0... including the fingers to show the number.

"So from 10 fingers held up to one. When we got to 1 I turned finger around as a joke and did not realise that this would be caught on camera. It was a private joke with the team and I'm so sorry it went out on air! It was not my intention for this to happen and I'm sorry if I offended or upset anyone.

"I wasn't 'flipping the bird' at viewers or even a person really. It was a silly joke that was meant for a small number of my mates." (sic)
