K-pop girl group fromis_9 have announced their upcoming departure from Pledis Entertainment after their contracts expire later this month.
On November 29, Pledis Entertainment released a statement on fan community platform Weverse, where it announced that fromis_9 will leave the label after the girl group’s contracts expire later this month. The band were initially formed through reality survival series Idol School and made their debut in January 2018, later signing with Pledis in 2021.
“The exclusive contract with fromis_9 will expire this coming December 31,” the agency wrote. “We discussed at length and in depth with the members of fromis_9 regarding each member s future and direction and have come to an amicable conclusion to end the exclusive artist contract.”
Pledis Entertainment went on to express its gratitude toward the K-pop group, before announcing that fromis_9 are due to release a final song with the label on December 23 as “their expression of their gratitude for their fandom”.
The eight-piece last released music in August with the single album ‘Supersonic’, featuring a title track of the same name and two additional B-sides Beat the Heat and Take a Chance .
‘Supersonic’ itself came over a year after fromis_9 released their first studio album ‘Unlock My World’ in June 2023. The album also marked the group’s first release since the departure of member Jang Gyu-ri in July 2022.
