NME s newest stars of The Cover, Heriot, have compiled an exclusive playlist to accompany the story s launch “ check it out below.

The British metal band are on this week s (September 30) edition of The Cover, a renewal of NME s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover “ you can read the profile of Heriot here, written by Emma Wilkes and featuring photography by Tom Oxley.

Heriot s appearance on The Cover follows the release of their debut album, ˜Devoured By The Mouth Of Hell . Accompanying the story is an exclusive playlist that sheds light on what songs inspired the record, by the likes of Korn, Slipknot and Slayer “ and Billie Eilish. Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.

In their Cover story, Heriot reflect on how the influences they ve absorbed, from other music and the world at large, have led to the enigmatic, cataclysmic mood of their album. If everything was happy and peaceful and good, then we d probably make really happy music, vocalist and bassist Jake Packer says. Adds vocalist and guitarist Debbie Gough, The world gets more and more grey as you get older “ it s not black and white. How do you navigate that?

The band also weigh in on the state of metal music, from pop stars flirtations with the genre to thriving scenes in both the UK and US. A lot of people are realising they need something a bit harder or more abrasive and raw in their life, Packer theorises. Metal gives that on a plate. It s not as commercialised and people are discovering that there s more [music out there] than just what s in front of them.
