Charli XCX, John Legend and more have backed Kamala Harris to be the next US President.

A host of stars have come out in support of the vice president after Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race yesterday (July 21).

The 81-year-old plans to serve out the remainder of his term in office, which ends at noon on January 20 2025. He also immediately endorsed Harris to be the next president of the US.

Charli XCX gave her backing to Harris on social media writing: “Kamala IS brat,” while John Legend called for the American public to elect Kamala Harris as our President .

She s ready for this fight and I m excited to help her in any way I can, he added.

Harris’ HQ team has since launched a new twitter banner in the style of XCX’s artwork for her recent album which is also called ‘Brat’.

Elsewhere, actor Jamie Lee Curtis also hailed Harris as the next president.

She wrote: “I support wholeheartedly @joebiden and his decision to step down and to endorse unreservedly @kamalaharris.

She is trusted and tested and she is a fierce advocate for women s rights and people of colour and her message is one of hope and unity for America at her time of great national divide.

Star Trek actor George Takei also reposted Harris words declaring: “I’m not just prepared to take on Trump, I’m prepared to beat him,” and added: “Yes you are, Kamala Harris. Yes you are.”

Elsewhere, Aaron Sorkin backed Harris despite a recent op-ed in which he suggested Mitt Romney should run.

The award-winning writer of The West Wing and The Social Network issued a statement via former West Wing colleague and actor Joshua Melina.

I take it all back. Harris for America! said Sorkin. Per Deadline, the statement was later confirmed by a Sorkin spokesperson.

A host of stars came out yesterday after Biden announced he was dropping out of the US presidential race including Ariana Grande, Lizzo and Barbra Streisand.

The current US President announced his decision, explaining that it was “in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”

It comes after there had  been several calls from those in the entertainment world for Biden to step down after his disastrous first presidential debate against Trump on June 27.
