A full slate of Standard sets

Today, at MagicCon Las Vegas, Wizards Of The Coast announced its plans for the next year of Magic: The Gathering set releases, with seven main expansions coming throughout 2025.

The year begins with a "remaster" set containing cards from a certain spooky plane, and then rolls into six Standard-legal sets: three in-universe Magic sets, along with three collaboration sets under the game's Universes Beyond marquee. 2025 will mark the first time a Universes Beyond-themed set will be legal in MTG's Standard format; the previous UB set, The Lord Of The Rings: Tales Of Middle-earth, was legal in Modern, but not Standard.

The MagicCon announcements also included a highly-requested return to an MSRP-style format for selling packs, bundles, and other Magic: The Gathering products. Wizards Of The Coast moved away from MSRP in 2019, but it will make its return with the Foundations set on November 15.

Below, you'll see every set included in the announcement, along with art and cards revealed during the preview panels.

Innistrad: Remastered (January 24)

The first set of 2025 will be Innistrad: Remastered, a return to the gothic horror world of vampires and werewolves first introduced in September 2011. Seven sets across Magic's history will be included in this reprint set, along with a new type of special card: Headliners.

Headliners are cards included to be "the most exciting card to collect in a release," according to the official DailyMTG blog, with multiple artworks, treatments, and sometimes even serialized versions. The headliner for Innistrad Remastered will be Edgar Markov, a legendary creature from the Commander 2017 Vampiric Bloodlust preconstructed deck who has never seen a reprint until now.

Aetherdrift (February 14)

Next up is Aetherdrift, the first Standard-legal set of 2025. Aetherdrift follows a "death race" theme where denizens of three different planes in the MTG universe come together to compete for the Aether Spark, a trophy that holds an incredible power--something longtime hero Chandra Nalaar has been seeking.

Tarkir: Dragonstorm (April 11)

The second set centered around a specific plane in the MTG universe--though this time, the set is Standard-legal--Tarkir: Dragonstorm returns to the titular plane of Tarkir, where five clans will do battle against a surge of lethal dragons. Some familiar faces to MTG fans have been confirmed for the set, including Sarkhan and the spirit dragon Ugin.

Final Fantasy (June 13)

The long-awaited collaboration between Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy will finally be released on June 13, 2025. The set will span all 16 mainline Final Fantasy games, with iconic characters, monsters, and locations from across Final Fantasy to be featured. Characters shown during the MagicCon panel include Yuna and Tidus from FFX, Emet-Selch from FFXIV, Kefka from FFVI, Lightning from FFXIII, and Sephiroth from FFVII.

Edge Of Eternities (August 1)

Magic: The Gathering goes to outer space in Edge Of Eternities on August 1. This set will be the franchise's first-ever space opera, as it explores beyond the known Multiverse in an area called the Solthera system. The set will also mark the return of a long-absent villain from the MTG universe: the rogue artificer Tezzeret.

Marvel's Spider-Man (TBA 2025)

First revealed at the same New York Comic-Con panel as the upcoming Marvel-themed Secret Lair Superdrop in November, Marvel's Spider-Man will be the first full expansion set to be part of the collaboration between Marvel and Magic: The Gathering. No specific release date was revealed at the MagicCon panel, however.

After Spider-Man, the panel also teased a third Universes Beyond expansion set to release in 2025, but no specific details--including whether or not it's another Marvel-themed set--were confirmed.

Secret Lair x SpongeBob SquarePants

Finally, another iconic franchise was confirmed to be receiving a Secret Lair drop a la Marvel, only this time the series involves a sponge from Bikini Bottom. Secret Lair x SpongeBob SquarePants will be releasing sometime in 2025.
