Star Wars returns

Lucasfilm and Disney have released the first official images of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the next Star Wars TV series due out this year.

The images focus on actor Jude Law's character, Jod Na Nawood, along with some of the supporting cast. We also get a glimpse at some of the scenes and settings from Skeleton Crew, and it all looks pretty impressive.

"When four kids make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, they get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy," the show's official synopsis reads. "Finding their way home, meeting unlikely allies and enemies will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined."

Skeleton Crew also features a number of child actors, including Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Wim), Kyriana Kratter (KB), Robert Timothy Smith (Neel), and Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Fern).

Law told People of Skeleton Crew, "It is a fun place to be, the universe of Star Wars. And there are great references to old films and recent episodes and series. There's a lot of originality and I hope that will bring the feeling of fun to those who watch it."

Skeleton Crew premieres December 3 on Disney Plus. It's the second new live-action Star Wars series this year, following The Acolyte.

In Skeleton Crew, Law said his character and the children are "all in constant state of confusion and jeopardy and challenge." He went on to say that the show is "very much a piece about working together and overcoming fears and overcoming...perhaps [one's] opinion of oneself or one's own weaknesses in order to succeed."

"I had a wonderful time making this with everyone involved," Law said of the child actors. "Those four in particular who worked with me very closely were just great fun and incredibly professional, and I'm immensely proud to be a part of their crew."

Series co-creator Jon Watts said Law took on a number of responsibilities on the Skeleton Crew set.

"Because he's with the kids all the time, he's also kind of felt like the co-director, co-producer with us and he's co-acting coach, you know, giving the kids tips, and they would look to him. He really became sort of a mentor figure to the kids as well," Watts said.

Skeleton Crew also features a droid named SM 33, who is voiced by Nick Frost.

"He's like a rusty old, cranky droid that sort of reluctantly helps the kids along the way," Watts said.
