Batman returns
2022's The Batman starring Robert Pattinson was a big success, both with critics and fans, and also at the box office where it earned $772 million worldwide. Naturally, people are excited about the sequel and The Batman 2 release date. There are plenty of unknowns still, but we do know the film is definitely happening and brings back Pattinson and director Matt Reeves.

What is The Batman 2 about?
The Batman 2 is a sequel to The Batman that continues the character's story in the dark world of Gotham. But we basically don't know anything else. Barry Keoghan played the Joker for a very brief instance in one of the final scenes of the film, and many are taking this to mean the character might have a larger role to play in the sequel. For now, we don't know anything about that or anything at all regarding the story.
When is The Batman 2 coming out?
2022's The Batman had its own share of delays due to COVID, and the sequel faced some delays as well. The film was originally pegged to hit theaters in October 2025, but was delayed an entire year to October 2026.
While fans will have to wait a while longer for The Batman 2, the spin-off series The Penguin with Farrell back in the role debuts later this year on Max. Additionally, Joker 2 with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga is set for release in theaters this October.
Who's going to be in The Batman 2
Robert Pattinson returns to play Batman once again in The Batman 2. Andy Serkis is coming back to play Alfred, while Jeffrey Wright is returning as well to reprise his character, James Gordon. Beyond that, however, we don't know more about other returning cast members or who is joining the sequel. As mentioned, Keoghan could return as Joker, but that is not confirmed.
Is there a trailer for The Batman 2?
Sadly, no, there is no trailer yet for The Batman 2. Rumors suggest the movie won't start filming until early 2025, so it would likely be some time after that before a trailer is released. There is always the possibility of DC releasing a mood or tone piece for The Batman 2 to generate hype and help ease the wait, but this may only be wishful thinking.
Who's directing The Batman 2?
Matt Reeves, who directed the 2022 Batman film, is coming back again for the sequel. He's also known for directing the movies Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes, as well as Let Me In and Cloverfield.
How does The Batman 2 connect to The Penguin?
The next entry in what's being referred to as the "Batman Crime Saga" is this September's The Penguin TV series, which stars Colin Farrell as the villain. The producers recently told Entertainment Weekly that this show is "the bridge between the two films" and that the TV show will lead "almost directly" into The Batman 2.
Naturally, then, many are wondering if Pattinson's Batman could appear in The Penguin. That remains to be seen.
Beyond The Penguin, it's possible there could be additional Batman Crime Saga TV shows, though none have been confirmed as of yet.
