Lenovo Unveils The First SteamOS-Powered Handheld From a Third-Party

One of the gaming announcements unveiled at CES 2025 today was related to Lenovo's latest handheld release, the Legion Go S. However, it isn't an AI-enabled assistant or a virtual reality experience, but a tie-up with Steam Deck-maker Valve that is making headlines.

Lenovo is now the first officially licensed company outside of Valve to adopt the company's SteamOS into one of their in-line devices. Valve's operating system SteamOS will provide Legion Go S users with a seamless gaming experience equipped with the power and flexibility of PC gaming.

Key features include cloud saves, allowing for a fluid transition between PC gaming and the handheld console, and remote play, allowing streaming from the device from a PC. Users will also gain access to the thousands of games available via Steam.

The announcement marks the first step in Valve's initiative to expand SteamOS to non-Steam Deck devices, not only to Lenovo but to other companies as well. However, Lenovo is not doing away with its Microsoft Windows operating system, intending to offer both options alongside one another.

As of the time of writing, Lenovo has not announced the official release date of the Legion Go S powered by SteamOS, so stay tuned for updates on the product release information and other CES 2025 innovations.
