Paramount Pictures continues to bet big on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. As Sonic the Hedgehog 3 premieres in theaters around the world this. week, the studio is already putting forward plans for a fourth film.
The third franchise film is expected to hit $55 million to $60 million USD at the North American box office for opening weekend, shaping up to be a sure win for the next film. Globally, the film has had an 87% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes and has proven to be a family favorite. The first two films of the franchise garnered $725.2 million USD and caused over $180 million USD in global consumer spending from digital and entertainment purchases. The Paramount+ spin-off series Knuckles has also been popular since the release earlier this year.
The first three films saw Jeff Fowler direct and the third film brought back Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Sonic's main antagonist and Ben Swchartz as Sonic. The third film also featured James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey and Keanu Reeves.
