Disney has released another teaser trailer for the upcoming live-action film Lilo & Stitch.
In an adorable new clip that tugs at the audience's nostalgic heartstrings, the teaser shared on social media and YouTube sees Stitch paying homage to The Lion King as he is lifted into the air like Simba in the opening scene. The caption for the video reads, "Long live the...King?" The new trailer for the reimagination of the animated classic also features the original series' iconic theme song, "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride," playing in the background. As Stitch is lifted in the air, he appears to be wearing floaties and squirms away, making a splash on the beach as he falls to the sand. At the end of the clip, Stitch crawls on screen and greets the audience with a "Hi."
The teaser trailer debuted alongside a new poster that showcases Stitch held in the air by a character reminiscent of Rafiki from The Lion King. The upcoming film's description reads, "A live-action reimagining of Disney’s 2002 animated classic, Lilo & Stitch is the wildly funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family. Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the Oscar®-nominated filmmaker behind the animated feature film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, the film stars Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Hannah Waddingham, Chris Sanders, with Courtney B. Vance, and Zach Galifianakis, introducing Maia Kealoha. Lilo & Stitch is produced by Jonathan Eirich, p.g.a. and Dan Lin, with Louie Provost, Tom Peitzman and Ryan Halprin serving as executive producers." Watch the trailer above.
