As she prepares to celebrate her60th birthday, says she’s doing just fine without a man in her life.
The actress appeared on the Tuesday, November 26 episode of Sherri, where she explained why dating just isn’t fun anymore. Her reasons were, predictably, hilarious.
“Okay, so my thing on that — people would say, ‘Are you dating?’ and I’d say, ‘Well I don’t date much anymore because I used to date, and you’d look across the table at the guy and you’d think, ‘Okay, I wonder if we’re gonna end up in bed together,’ and now I look across the table and I just think: ‘When am I gonna have to change this guy’s diapers?’” she joked. “It’s just not that fun anymore.”
Instead of dipping her toes into the dating pool, Hatcher is learning French using Duolingo and spending time with her cat, Fig.
She appeared on the show to promote her upcoming Lifetime movie How to Fall in Love by Christmas, prompting host Sherri Shepherd to ask if Hatcher’s character, Nora, and her string of bad dates in the movie are based on real experience.
“I don’t date much,” she replied. “I mostly date my cat.”
When Shepherd suggested she date younger men like and , Hatcher said it would be “too much.”
“Alright, okay, line ’em up,” Hatcher said. “I mean people will say that to me. They’re like, ‘We can’t believe you don’t date, they must be lining up out the door,’ and I’m like ‘No.’ No, I open it once in a while, there’s nobody there.”
While life sans dating is enough for Hatcher now, she has been married twice before. She was married to from 1988 to 1989, then to from 1994 to 2003. Hatcher and Tenney share daughter Emerson, 27.
While people are apparently interested in her dating life, Hatcher says she is simply grateful for her age and health.
“There’s only one way to feel about aging and that’s grateful,” she said. “Every day above ground is a gift, so I do look at it with a lot of gratitude.”
“I’m so tongue-tied about it because it’s that balance of you want to just continue to be the best you can every day, but also there’s a lot of acceptance that comes with it, and that is just grace,” she continued. “I feel like when we’re young, we’re so hard on ourselves, and I feel like the expectation of it to be something other than what it is is lessons, and it’s really nice.”
