While fashion may be at the forefront of Tommy Bogo's recently rebranded TOMBOGO, the Bay Area-established brand is reminding us that design is critical to its core ethos. Described as an "experiential learning outlet for Bogo to create out-of-the-box products with the intention to spur dialogue about function, form and impact in today's climate of fashion," TOMBOGO is an incubator of sorts for the designer's conversation-catalyzing creations, with his newest one dubbed the PocketCam.
Exactly what it sounds like, TOMBOGO's PocketCam is a miniature all-in-one camera, stripped down to the basics. Encased in a translucent, retro-inspired offering features a custom user interface reminiscent of memory card screens from the early 2000s.
Capable of capturing both photos and videos, the handheld camera melds modern and retro design, complete with a range of 25 custom filters – including some TOMBOGO-branded ones – as well as a mini sound system and a selection of six minigames. Bogo also elected to replace the viewfinder with a selfie camera.
“The PocketCam is a love letter to digital nostalgia, designed for creators who want a versatile tool that empowers self-expression and exploration,” Tommy Bogo explained in a statement. “We set out to create more than just a camera; we wanted an experience that speaks to the joy of discovery and the creative possibilities of blending past and present.”
