The collaborative wheels at the JJJJound headquarters are ceaselessly turning — especially regarding footwear collaborations — and now the Montreal-based outfit has revealed the latest chapter in its long-running partnership with New Balance: two takes on the 993. Featuring JJJJound's signature earthy brown/olive palette, the new efforts aren't so much a complete collaborative reimagining as an alternate interpretation of the hues that JJJound has applied to past projects like 2018's 990v3, 2020's 992, 2022's 990v3 and 2023's 991 presented atop a new canvas.
One style accents its upper with two-tone white and bone midsoles plus a striking silver tongue, while the other opts for a more murky look that's in line with the aforementioned 990v3 release from 2022 thanks to black tongues, collars, overlays and midsoles. The one substantial change to the silhouette, at least by JJJJound standards, is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it reimagining of the tongue branding. Normally, a 993 will feature two lines of text that read "New Balance" atop a "Made in USA" hit. Here, there's just a single "Made in USA" hit that's been moved up to the top of the tongue, leaving an ever-so-slight gap open between it and the standard "window" that contains the shoe's model name directly above the laces.
At the time of writing, this duo of collaborations has yet to receive a release date. However, they're likely to touch down in the coming weeks so stay tuned for more info as it's made available.
