While the album has strongly imprinted itself into the zeitgeist, Tyler the Creator is reminding us that he isn't done with CHROMAKOPIA quite yet. With the tenth anniversary of Camp Flog Gnaw coming this weekend and his lengthy CHROMAKOPIA world tour coming next year, the musician has given us an unmasked glimpse into the making of the acclaimed album.
Tyler took to his Instagram feed to drop off the never-before-seen footage, which arrives in the form of a just-over six-minute short film dubbed MASK IS OFF: CHROMAKOPIA.
The clip compiles footage of the musician recording various tracks off the project, including bits of "I Killed You" and "I Hope You Find Your Way Home," as well as the chorus to"Thought I Was Dead" and the hushed vocals on "St. Chroma."
Tyler also works to perfect the instrumentals of the album, with clips of him toying with the keys, horns, percussion, and even his own mouth for some added backing melodies. While he's posted up behind his laptop chopping things up in a good chunk of the footage, the musician is also on his feet in the studio for a significant portion of it as well.
Cameos come from Sexyy Red, as she records her verse on "Sticky," and Lola Young for her part on "Like Him."
