Natasha Zinko SS25 Cuts Your "PLASTIC" Open

Ukranian-born, London-based designer Natasha Zinko isn't one to keep things simple. She challenges convention at every turn, constantly looking to amaze with outlandish collections that question our current landscapes. While last season saw Zinko recreate looks from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, Spring/Summer 2025 examines unobtainable beauty norms with a "PLASTIC" runway.

Natasha Zinko opened an otherworldly surgery clinic for SS25, examining beauty-enhancing procedures and broadcasting the before and after process that is often hidden from social media. The collection was swarmed with Zinko's signature apocalyptic energy, packing London's Oval Space with dozens of show-goers expecting the designer to cut them open.

We got what we expected and much more, with several models besides the venue's gigantic window bandaged post-surgery. The showcase quickly commenced with 46 looks mimicking invasive procedure processes. Models walked the runway wearing surgical vests and carrying cleaning gauzes and lit-up iPhones, followed by pre-wet button-downs paired with double-waisted short shorts.

Further down the line, coordinating white uniforms reimagined patient ensembles with plastic arm bags, contrasted by whimsical and reconstructed underwear dresses. Multi-armed tops and gingham capris followed graphic "top-up" tees and deconstructed sweatpants, while exposed breast implants and bandaged straight jackets came accessorized with black eye makeup. Models continued strolling down the runway with jaw straps for facial containment, wearing nude compression socks and "WHO'S YOUR SURGEON?" mock dresses that ask questions straight up. Finally, Zinko manipulated a plethora of denim and warped, flipped, and threw materials upside down to create uneven silhouettes.
