Last August, Amor Prohibido turned heads with the release of its "Forever Yours" collection, a loving homage to '90s LA style and founder Bryan Escareño's upbringing as a native Angelino. Now, Amor Prohibido is back with a free-flowing "Dance in the Rain" collection, offering an expansion of the brand's universe and a physical manifestation of one of Escareño's personal philosophies.
“The idea behind ‘Dance in the Rain’ is that you can’t control everything,” Escareño explains. “You can plan a picnic, but you can’t control the weather.”
This ethos is translated across a wide variety of relaxed-fit pieces, all handmade locally in Los Angeles, including weather-resistant waxed jackets and dresses, cut-and-sew sweatsuits in a "Horchata" tone that nod to the sartorial codes of Muscle Beach bodybuilders in the '90s and a moss green denim suit. There's also an evolution on Amor Prohibido's signature wide-legged denim, now with a split fabric construction that includes heavyweight heather grey cotton. The collection's overall hues boast a personal inspiration as well. When Escareño needs a break from the chaos of the city, he journeys to his parents' house, and the mixtures of green and grey seen across the pieces salute the transition from LA's sizzling concrete sidewalks to the manicured green lawns of the surrounding suburbs.
