A second woman has entered the Niagara Falls river just over a week after a mother and her two young children plunged to their deaths there.
Cops responded to a call for a woman in the water in the Horseshoe Falls area at Niagara Falls State Park around 2pm on Wednesday.
‘An immediate search of the area commenced using Park Police drone, foot searches of the gorge, and visual searches from overlooks,’ stated New York State Park Police.
The agency requested assistance from New York State Police Aviation in the search in the lower Niagara River.
As in the case of the mother and two kids, authorities say the woman entered Niagara River intentionally, WGRZ reported.
The search for the woman continues as Chaianti Means, 33, and her kids Roman Rossman, 9, and Mecca Means, 5 months old, have yet to be found – bringing the number of bodies missing in the river to four.
On Friday, community members held a candlelight vigil for Means and her children, who are presumed dead.
Horseshoe Falls is just below Goat Island, where park police and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded on the night of October 27 to search for Means and her kids. The three went over a safety guardrail over the waterfall.
‘The investigation has determined that this incident was intentional in nature, though the circumstances remain under investigation,’ said New York State Police at the time.
Means, a domestic violence counselor from Niagara Falls, in recent Facebook posts expressed heartbreak and despair over a breakup with her daughter’s father.
‘Cause I was a dumb a** pregnant b**** who swore up & down I ain’t want him,’ Means wrote in response to why the relationship ended.
She also wrote, ‘Everyone please leave me alone I’m in love with my daughter father,’ and, ‘I want my family back. Respectfully Idgaf what I said about him before or what anyone else thinks.’
The identity of the newly missing woman was not immediately disclosed.
And on Thursday, a day after she went into the river, a tour bus heading to Niagara Falls rolled over in the town of Chili, WKBW reported. Authorities said 28 people including one who was critically injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.
