I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn’t hesitate when I was offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club.
“I’m excited to be working with The Friedkin Group and I am looking forward to helping them rebuild the club.
“Now we need Goodison and all Evertonians to play their part in getting behind the players in this important season so we can move into our fabulous new stadium as a Premier League team.”
Revered by the Everton faithful, Moyes' best finish with the Toffees came in the 2004/05 season when they finished fourth - three points and one position higher than cross-town rivals Liverpool.
It earned the Merseyside outfit a spot in the third qualifying round of the Champions League, but hopes of progressing to the group stage were slashed when Villarreal knocked them out across two legs.

A further three European campaigns followed before Moyes waved goodbye to Goodison Park when he was given the United job following Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013.
It wouldn't be the fairytale move Moyes - or United - hoped for, given he was relieved of his duties less than a season into the six-year deal he'd signed.
Across all competitions, Moyes lasted for 51 matches before being sacked, with the ex-Celtic and Preston North End player losing 15 of those games.
Stints at Real Sociedad and Sunderland followed for Moyes, prior to joining West Ham United initially in 2017, where he helped save the Hammers from relegation.

Moyes' return to Merseyside comes following Dyche's sacking earlier this week, with the news having been confirmed on the day of Everton's FA Cup clash against Peterborough United.
Commenting after the 2-0 victory, Leighton Baines, who was given his debut by Moyes, said: "We spoke to them before the game, losing managers and coaches is never what anyone wants and that normally means that something hasn’t gone quite right.
"It is never on one person that, it is on a lot of people that are involved in it and the players knew they had to try and show something in terms of a response to it and they did.”
