David Moyes agrees to emotional Everton return to replace Sean Dyche as boss

David Moyes is poised for a sensational return to Everton as the club's new manager, following successful talks with the club's new owners, The Friedkin Group.

The Scot has reportedly signed a two-and-a-half year contract and will lead the Toffees in their final months at Goodison Park before they move to their new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock next season.

Despite talks with the US-based new owners extending into the evening due to time differences, an agreement was reached allowing Moyes to return in time to prepare for Wednesday's Premier League match against Aston Villa.

Moyes, who left Everton in June 2013 to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, oversaw more than 500 games during his 11-year tenure at Goodison Park, transforming the team from relegation strugglers to Champions League qualifiers in 2005.

The 61-year-old has been without a club since leaving West Ham at the end of last season and has also managed Preston, Real Sociedad and Sunderland.

Sean Dyche's tenure at Everton came to an abrupt end on Thursday, with the club languishing in 16th place in the Premier League, a mere point above the drop zone after securing only one victory in their last 11 matches.

The decision to part ways with Dyche occurred just hours before the Toffees' FA Cup triumph over Peterborough United, with Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman stepping up as interim managers.

Michael Keane, who has played under Dyche at both Burnley and Everton, expressed that the squad must shoulder some of the blame for the team's poor performance. Despite Dyche's efforts, which saw Everton avoid relegation twice, including last season when they were docked points twice for breaching financial rules, the club finds itself in a precarious position again.

Keane remarked: "Any time you lose a manager it's really disappointing and sad. As players, we need to take responsibility for that."

"I don't think we as players have been good enough as a collective and shown the quality we've got so it's not been a great day. There were a lot of good things and he's a great manager, it's just unfortunate the way it's ended."
