EastEnders fans think they've 'worked out' who really attacked Cindy Beale

EastEnders: Cindy returns to Albert Square

EastEnders enthusiasts are convinced they've solved the mystery of who assaulted Cindy Beale (played by Michelle Collins) on Christmas Day, following a disclosure made by Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) on Tuesday (January 7).

Cindy was savagely attacked with a shovel just after her affair with Junior (Micah Balfour) came to light in a heated showdown between the Beales and Knights.

As she remains unconscious in hospital, both families are busy blaming each other, trying to pinpoint the unknown attacker.

George Knight (Colin Salmon) has secured an alibi from his vulnerable brother Kojo Asare (Dayo Koleosho), placing him away from the scene of the crime.

On Monday, George visited his ex-wife in hospital, where he coincidentally bumped into his son Junior.

During his recent visit to Walford (January 7), former boxer George retrieved his blood-soaked shirt from its hiding spot, swiftly hiding it again when his wife Elaine approached.

In a bid to divert suspicion, he concocted a story about marital issues and admitted to visiting Cindy, asserting his rights as the father of her children, reports the Daily Star.

However, Elaine remained upset that George had referred to Cindy as 'his wife' during Christmas, and scolded him for only revealing his hospital visit before Junior could.

After a brief stay at the Bed and Breakfast, George was allowed back into The Vic by Elaine, on the condition that he resides in Linda's (Kellie Bright) room while she's away at rehab.

However, Elaine's relief quickly turned to horror when she stumbled upon a blood-stained shirt hidden in a cupboard, one that George's daughters, Anna (Molly Rainford) and Gina (Francesca Henry), identified as their dad's Christmas Day attire.

Yet EastEnders aficionados are crying foul over this apparent clue, speculating it's merely a red herring and that George is actually shielding his brother Kojo, who fell into trouble after discovering Cindy's clandestine affair.

Social media was abuzz with theories, as one fan posted on X: "George covering for Kojo #EastEnders."

And another shared with fervour: "We're saying Kojo's the one who attacked Cindy, agree?! #eastenders."

A fellow viewer chimed in with suspicion: "I think George asking Kojo to cover for him is a red herring. It wouldn't be this obvious. I think Kojo attacked Cindy. #EastEnders."

Others weighed in on the mystery, with a detective-minded fan suggesting: "George hiding Kojo's bloody shirt, imho #EastEnders."

While another straightforwardly deduced: "Kojo did it ... #EastEnders."

EastEnders airs Monday - Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
