ITV The Chase fans 'switch off' as player messes up 'easy' question
Fans of The Chase were fuming today (January 3) as a player answered an "obvious" question wrong. Viewers at home had a meltdown as they fumed that the contestant "should have got it".
Host Bradley Walsh welcomed four new hopefuls to the ITV show - Tom from Oxford, Yasmin from Surrey, Mercedes from Blackpool and Gary from Wigan. Together they went head to head against chaser Jenny Ryan, putting their general knowledge skills to the test, in a bid to win a cash prize.
First up was Tom, and as he attempted the quickfire cash builder round Bradley asked: "Which animated woodpecker goes to camp in a 2024 Netflix film?" The player responded: "Pass," as the host revealed the answer to be Woody Woodpecker.
With Tom failing to even give the question a bash, fans at home sent social media into a frenzy of disbelief - with some even saying they were "switching off".

"What woodpecker ? Pass. ffs #thechase," a third said, while another added: "He didn't know Woody Woodpecker? I'm off #thechase."
Meanwhile, someone else posted: "Animated woodpecker? Can only be one, dumbs**t. #TheChase."
Despite getting an "obvious" answer wrong, Tom still went on to impress Bradley as he secured a repuatble £6,000 in the cashbuilder round. He then went head to head with The Vixen, playing for a middle offer, managing to land himself a place in the Final Chase.

As the other players took their turns, Jenny had a word of warning to them. She reminded them that any winnings would be "fictional" until the very end of the game.
Gary was offered £1,000, £3,000 or £109,000 as his teammates told him to go low. However he said: "The £109,000 is so so tempting... But I'm going to listen to my team and go for the £1,000."
Jenny replied: "Those are some wise words because you've won nothing yet. This is all fictional money until that hooter goes at the end of the Final Chase."
