Gary Neville names two Man Utd signings he most wants INEOS to make in January

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has pinpointed the areas where the Red Devils must bolster their ranks in the January transfer window.

Despite doubts over United's ability to make significant additions this winter, manager Ruben Amorim may be keen to inject fresh talent after a lacklustre season start.

The urgency for reinforcements was underscored by Monday's 2-0 loss to Newcastle at Old Trafford, marking their ninth Premier League defeat in 19 games and the third consecutive home league loss—a first since the 1978/79 season.

With United languishing in 14th place, merely seven points clear of the drop zone, Amorim has alluded to the threat of a relegation scrap.

As troubles mount for United, Neville remains hopeful that the club will secure new signings in January. Reflecting on United's situation and transfer prospects on Sky Sports post-Newcastle match, Neville said: "I could say centre-forward, let's get a world-class centre-forward, let's get Isak in, but that's never going to happen."

Neville has expressed his views on United's tactical setup, emphasising the importance of the wing-backs in their current formation. He elaborated: "I think if you were starting, you'd have to start with the fundamentals of this system, which is the wing-backs, they hold it together.

"If you don't have the wing-backs functioning up and down that are able to attack and defend equally as good, and there aren't many of those around, by the way, because there aren't many teams that play wing-back, then you're going to struggle. So you need two quite unique players in those wide areas, and I think that will be the starting point."

He added praise for Mazraoui and Dalot, saying, "And that's nothing against [Noussair] Mazraoui or [Diogo] Dalot, I think they're very willing and doing the job the very best that they can. But they're to me the areas that I would start in this system."

In related news, after Amorim suggested a tight budget at United, stating, "We don't have that possibility in January."

He further clarified the financial constraints by saying, "You know the situation better than I [do]. It's not the case I am not arriving here and I can spend a lot of money, changing all the team. You know the situation so it's not a point to talk about it."
