ITV New Year's Eve Big Bash fans 'switch off' over 'inappropriate' segment
The National Lottery hosted another celebratory night of ITV's New Year's Eve Big Bash tonight (December 31). The show, hosted by Fleur East and Vernon Kay, produced exciting performances, live music and a night of looking back at hightlights from the past 12 months.
In a moving tribute to the 80th anniversary since D-Day, which happened on June 6. The date remembered the troops that were lost in battle as they landed on the beaches in Normandy back in the war.
As a reminder, Jason Isaacs read out some personal accounts of some of the veterans who served to music titled 'The Way it Was." As a pianist played a whimsical tune, images of soldiers popped up on screen.
The ITV studio camera panned around the Wembley arena, where the show was hosted, to show audience members wiping away tears as they were clearly overcome with emotion. After the emotional performance, Fleur and Vernon welcomed on veterans to tell their own stories.

On X/Twitter, one viewer wrote: "Blimey the D-Day slot was very very emotional.#NYEBigBash #thankyouveterans."

The ITV show marked the anniversary of D-Day (Image: ITV)However, others bashed the segment and thought that it was too sad to show on a celebratory programme. One user moaned: "Wow. How abysmal is #NYEBigBash? The off button is the better option."
Another added: "Is it just me or is this segment super inappropriate for a new year celebration show #NYEBigBash." While a third said: "Well this is feckin cheery way to end the year eh.... #NYEBigBash."
Elsewhere on the ITV show, fans complained about what Fleur East was wearing. As she took to presenting duties, dressed in a sparkling white dress, viewers at home made a comparison.

They all joked that she was wearing a light shade due to the boning in the dress creating a very structured, peculiar shape.
Posting to X/Twitter, one fan joked: "#NYEBigBash Why is Fleur East wearing a lamp shade. All the beautiful dresses you can get and she wears that..."
