Call the Midwife fans 'work out' Roger's true identity in Nancy Corrigan twist

Call the Midwife 2024 Christmas Special: Official trailer

Call the Midwife fans are convinced newcomer Roger Noble (played by Conor O'Donnell) is set to bring a whole lot of drama as his romance with Nurse Nancy Corrigan (Megan Cusack) was confirmed.

As Christmas arrived in Poplar, Nancy was feeling lonely until a charming, funny pharmaceutical salesman called Roger wandered through the doors of doctor Turner's surgery.

There was an instant spark between the two that grew when Roger returned the next day. In a cringe-worthy attempt to flirt, Roger joked before finally asking Nancy on a date.

After initially turning Roger down the midwife had a change of heart, although she was uncomfortable with him finding out she is a single mother to her adored daughter Colette (Francesca Fullilove).

As she has been dedicated to serving as a midwife and looking after Colette, romance has been off the cards for Nancy - but that is about to change.

Roger and Nancy enjoyed a magical date at the funfair and they shared a kiss. He then twisted his ankle as Nancy looked on laughing.

The next day in fact, when he turned up on the doorstep of Nonnatus to give Nancy thank-you flowers. It was Colette who received him and he was shocked to hear her call out "mummy" in regards to Nancy, who had failed to mention she had a child.

Seeing Roger and Collette together sent Nancy in a panic as she hurried off to work. But seemingly unbothered by the situation, Roger persisted and asked Nancy out again.

He was also quick to push the idea of taking Nancy and Colette out and because he had cushioned the ground in flowers and sweet talk she agreed.

Roger was eager to show his commitment to Nancy after only meeting a few times which raised concerns among viewers.

Other fans are certain Roger is a political activist and as conflict in Northern Ireland mounts, and the 1970s arrive, he could prove problematic.

Taking to X, one person wrote: "Why do I think Roger will be trouble for Nancy #CallTheMidwife."
