ITV GMB's Adil Ray skewers Labour MP with brutal six words in 'hypocrite' clash

GMB: Adil claims Labour are just the same as the Conservatives

Good Morning Britain presenter Adil Ray issued a brutal claim as he ripped into Heidi Alexander.

The 50-year-old hosted Friday's instalment (December 20) of the ITV programme with Charlotte Hawkins, sharing the top headlines of the day with viewers across the country.

During the show, they welcomed the Transport Secretary to discuss the government's latest cash boost of £1.6 billion, which they hope will help tackle the country's pothole-plagued roads.

Adil didn't hold back when speaking to the Labour MP, claiming they have acted in the same manner as the previous government.

He began: "When your party campaigned to be the new government, you said about the Tory Party that they had no strategy, that they were inept, bad decisions were made.

"And yet again you're doing exactly what some have accused them of doing, of short-termism, just putting a bandaid on this solution. You need a long-term plan and strategy to this."

He added: "You're not willing to do that."

The MP immediately hit back, saying: "I strongly refute that to be honest because if you look at what the RAC have said in response to this announcement, they've welcomed it and recognised that it is a very significant investment."

She voiced hopes that the roads will be in a better state next year before Charlotte interjected: "But will they? Will they be in a better state?

"I know you're giving local authorities the flexibility on how to spend the money, but if they haven't got the money to do the proper resurfacing, then a year down the line those potholes that have been fixed might be crumbling away."

Heidi explained the importance of local councils using money "wisely", revealing the work they do will be proactive, including resurfacing roads.

She added: "This additional £500 million is a very substantial investment. There's been a decade of underinvestment under the previous government. We're determined to change that and turn that around so people's experiences of the roads are better than it has been."

Charlotte quipped: "Well let's hope that that works."

The 50 per cent hike in funding for resurfacing local roads should be enough to fix 7 million extra potholes.
